The Louis Room is a large room located on the second floor of Norris University Center. There are two halves of the room that can be separated by a divider. The south half is a large square room with a tall ceiling (approx. 22ft.). There is also a balcony that runs all the way around the room. The North half is a smaller room with a 9ft. ceiling. It is often used as a backstage area.

Technical Notes

  • Norris does not allow the use of saws of any kind in the Norris performance spaces. Routers and welding equipment are similarly disallowed. All use of these tools must be done offsite. For more details, see the Norris Performance Guidelines.
  • All set pieces must be loaded into the space through one of two sets of standard-size double doors on the west wall. Large sets should be constructed with this in mind.
  • A number of large black curtains which can be used for masking are stored in the StuCo Cage.
  • The Norris Performance Guidelines set limits on the maximum allowable dimensions of sets in the Louis Room: 40'x25' along the East and West walls of the room, and 40'x30' along the North and South walls.
  • The Norris Theatre Guidelines prohibit sets in the Louis Room from exceeding 18' in height, including freestanding truss.

  • There is a 3-phase, 100 Amp cam*lok panel located in the rear of the booth, which a dimmer rack (usually the StuCo Dimmer Rack) can be tied into. The majority of productions in the Louis Room place the dimmer rack(s) in the booth, and tie into the panel with a short (10') set of feeder cable.
  • Shows in the Louis Room have access to the StuCo Utility Truss, as well as the booms and pipe bases that are stored in the balcony.
  • Shows in the Louis Room have the use of the StuCo Dimmer Rack reserved for them at the beginning of the year. Use of the dimmer rack and other pieces of StuCo equipment are specified on the StuCo Equipment Schedule.
  • Piping that lighting instruments can be hung from is installed on the north balcony as well as partly on the east and west balconies.

  • The Louis Room is equipped with its own sound system that may be able to serve the needs of a show. Speakers are installed in the Southeast corner as well the East and South walls. The system is controlled from the booth. Groups wishing to use this equipment must have permission and training to do so. Inquiries about this system and its use should be made to Seamus Egan (<email></email>), Norris Technical Services Manager.
